I was a bartender for a long time, and packed soft crabs during the day. Quit those jobs when they were closed for the season and was a pharmacy tech/cashier for about a year. ANd now i'm here in animal control and have been for almost 3years. Definately my fave so far, on most days anyway. But i do still bartend/waitress the money is too good not to.

Bartending is a GREAT way to prepare for this job!!!!

Okay, so brace yourselves: waitress, parlourmaid, butler, cook (British pub grub), proofreader, typesetter, editor, copywriter, "managing" editor, carpal tunnel survivor, animal control officer.

Still bartend occasionally for my local pub just because I enjoy it, and the money is very handy. But I have finally found the job that is the LOVE OF MY LIFE. (Now if I can just find a "love of my life" who will put up with my job ... )

I started as a police explorer at the age 15, wanting to be a police officer. I continued with police work up until college and at the age of 24 took my first ACO job and have been doing it 13 years. So police work and animal control have been it.

Default what did you do before becoming an aco

I took care of all the draft horses at Disneyland for 15 years. I have always worked with animlas and feel extremly blessed to be an ACO. I can make a difference everyday in this job!

I have had many many jobs before this. Worked on a fishing boat, cashier, McDonalds, video store clerk, landscaper, log scaler office, WalMart, cab company(deliveries and dispatcher), pig farm( 15,000 pigs in the entire place), ranch hand that raised 300 head of shorthorn cattle, and in amongst all that I am trying to raise 2 sons. My current project is to start a boarding kennel as our town no longer has one. Also would like to start some sort of rescue for petbulls. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to start a rescue for these breeds it would be very very helpful. Unfortunately the spca isn't all it's made out to be. Once you find out the behind the scene stuff that goes on it is very disappointing.

I've also tinkered with the idea of owning/running a boarding kennel!! I found this neat website run by the American Boarding Kennel Association. You might want to check it out at http://www.abka.com/abka/ Some of their books sound fascinating as well. Good luck on your endeavor!

And delivering pizza you learn how to deal with the public all alone at odd hours of the night and you learn to find addresses with ease no matter how poorly something is posted. Very ACO related!
I enjoyed the pizza stuff (Pizza Hut...college and post college a bit during the recession).
