Default What did you do before you became an ACO?

Although the Animal Planet shows have certainly changed the system, I think most of us old warhorses didn't grow up telling everyone in high school that we wanted to be ACO's. I'm curious what other people did before they became an ACO.

I was an animal nutritionist for Purina Mills. Mostly for horses, but I worked with pets and exotic animals and occasionally I'd give some advice on beef cattle. Then the grain market crashed and voila, ACO here I come.

Before that I ran a pet sitting company with 25 employees, delivered tropical fish, delivered pizza, groomed racehorses on the Grand Circuit, and did some retail stuff.

Default what I did

I trained service dogs (assistance, seizure alert, hearing) for the disabled. Hands down, the best job in the world, and I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

Before that, I was a claims adjudicator for Social Security for 12 years.

Prior to my current position I was a full time HVAC installer and part time park ranger.

I did the rebelious teenager thing and moved to California when I was 16 and was living the "American Dream" until one of the times I came back here to visit my parents when I was 21, took a trip to the grocery store, smacked into a guy's brand new truck and ended up falling in love with him and never going back. It's now been almost 8 years

I started out in security. Patrol mostly with the last couple years in a hospital. One of the guards I worked with trains SAR dogs and I met some of her new recruits before they started training. I was hooked, I've always loved dogs and when I moved up here and the opportunity presented itself for work in the field I jumped on it.

I was a probation officer for several years. Also, part time, I was a deputy sheriff. In Canada, it is almost equivalent to the US Marshals. This job is a lot more fun.

I was an explorer, I explored many occupations before falling in love and sticking with this one. After high school I spent many years as a bookkeeper...snooze....Everything after that involved animals. Last occupation before AC was as a dog groomer.
