Yeah I really don't understand the benefits of this opening.

Retirement? Vacation? Sick leave? Holidays? Anything? It's a little odd.

I can answer those questions:

Retirement = PERF
Vacation = Earn 14.66 Hours / Month
Sick Time = Earn 10 Hours / Month (Max is 400 Hours)
Holidays = 11 Paid Holidays

Insurance Benefits with the City are great. Great coverage / Not Expensive

Your issued your own vehicle for duty use (no sharing squads). Uniforms and Gear supplied minus a few tid bits here and there. Right now we work 8 hours shifts with set days off (mine are Thursday & Friday). Not the best schedule in the world by any means but we're working on it.

If you like doing investigations, then this is the place to be. **** loads of Cruelity and Neglect with a side of Dog Fighting served up warm!

The union sucks in my opinion - so I don't belong. That could change in the future. Its your typical Big City ACO Department / Shelter. Over worked and under budgeted.

We carry Monandock Batons and MK III OC Spray for primary Defense. Admin is Slooooooowly working on Firearms. I suspect Tasers are more apt to come first if we do it right.

City is broke up into 10 Districts. Your usually assigned to 2 districts for coverage and most the time end up all over the place cause we're understaffed for the amount of calls that come in. A couple years ago we fielded over 38000 calls. This year I suspect somewhere in the neighborhood of 20000 for (right now) 13 officers. We are billed to have 21 - so who knows how many they plan on hiring thru this posting.... But it won't be enough! LOL

Come one - Come all - Embrace the Hate! = )

Should have had at least one application to review today... Mine.
My family has numerous generations that were born in Marion County, including my father, and I'd guess 100+ family buried in Indiana, beginning in the very early 1800's. I have numerous cousins and other relatives I've never met, STILL entrenched within this city.

It would be surreal to come full circle and end up where my father moved from 50+ years ago.

We'll see........

Well, the major thing that sucks about that job is you'd have to live in Indiana...

The tough part for me to leave this state is to see all my certs go out the window. Especially my acadamy and firearm instructor cert and status...I could do it all over again if the dept. supports that kind of training for an ACO. Whats the living expenses like there??
