Default Hello to all Profesionals, my first time here

I have been monitoring this site for years and figured, why not join and see what others think about the job(Good or Bad) and what do they like about the area they work in. I worked for several years on the Stepfathers farm when I was young and always wanted to follow my real dads footsteps. Military, then Law Enforcement. But as we all know, sometimes what we want is not what life hands us.
I have been an Animal Control Officer since Feb 2000 and like any other job, I have seen good and bad. I originally wanted to go full time law enforcement and the area I am working in is hard to get into. Originally, I took the job right out of the Army because of the benefits, and it didn't pay well at all. I feel the job picked me, even though this wasn't what I ever thought about career wise. It's grone on me and I have made friends along the way in other professions. To me every day is a learning experience, no matter how smart you are.

Being a Public Servant is not easy, but we are the ones the public turns to when they need heros and or someone to complain about.
The Officer must always use discretion and do the best that he/she can and if necessary educate the public one way or the other.
This job is not for everyone, and not everyone can do what you can.

Hello, fellow New Jerseyan (or New Jerseyite) depending on what part of the State you are from. I have heard us referred as both!

If you have been following us for some time, then you know about me and my comments. If you need advice on medical issues, contact me. I'm more familiar than most regarding regulations and particular diseases, etc. in NJ.

Welcome! I'm not sure how many of us said "I want to be an Animal Control Officer' when we were younger. But, I would be willing to bet not many. I wanted to be a veterinarian. But, ended up working at an eyewear company, a newspaper, a food service company, and a veterinary clinic. Then, took a part time job on-call nights for our local animal control department. Now I am a full time private shelter owner, shelter manager, and ACO. Yes, I believe the job does 'pick you'. For those it doesn't, they probably do not stick with the job very long and move onto something else.

Default Thanks

I appreciate that.
And yes, we here in Jersey are considered Jersey Boy's or Girls, and sometimes Jerseyans. Nice to meet you and it's good to hear from another for Jersey, I am from South Jersey which should be a totally different part of the map, kinda like Virginia and W. Virginia. lol
