Ooh this is like making me feel guilty.. I do not take care as much as I should. Ok I dont at all.. I have no will power. I admit it when it comes to food and excersize I am weak..
I also was diagnosed a couple of years ago with diabetes. Runs in my familey big time. When I found out I went on a low carb no white food kind of diet. Potatoes are my weakness, it doesnt matter how they are prepared. It was hell.. I also am a soda freak. now I am a diet mountain dew kind of girl.. I can relate to the multiple a day . Lets just say I keep our soda machine guy at work in buisness.
Anyhoot I was able to get it under control, infact when I went for a check up it was not visable..
I am afraid to go to the Dr's now, this post may be just what I need to give me the boost I so need to get..
I do love to swim though. I try to do laps every day....

Believe it or not I have loss around 75 pounds. O_o. At my worst I weighed 212 pounds. I was down (gotten lazy) to 140-137. What you need to do is......you.ready? The magic thing was watching my caloric intake. It is simple, to loose weight, you need to burn more calories then you intake. Eat 2000 calories a day you need to burn at least 2001 calories. If you do a lot of muscle building work your weight will go up because muscle weighs more then fat. If you do a lot of cardio type work you will lose weight and gain very little muscle. Eating fiber will keep you full for longer and does not add a lot of extra calories. Alternate and change up your workout allowing you muscles to rebuild themselves after heavy lifting. As for what you need for reserve program, I guess check with what they do in the academy. Running of course but consider a low impact cardio workout like swimming.

You also have to be aware that just because something sounds healthy or is on the healthy menu, it may not be quite as innocent as it looks...some salads in restaurants, even without dressing, can be 600 calories (or more!)-add dressing and you might as well be eating a burger and fries.

For example:
Arby's Chicken Club Salad without dressing is 504 calories, almost half of which is fat; their Ham and Swiss Melt and 2-piece order of Potatoes Cakes has about the same calories (521), with fewer calories from fat.

Or, for those same calories, and less than half the fat than either of them, you can go to Dairy Queen and get a Banana Split!

Not that I'm advocating living on burgers and ice cream, just pointing out that you really gotta do your research, and not trust what the restaurants push as healthy!

Hey,

Find me a nice guy down there without loads of baggage and commitment issues, and I'll pack it all up and move down there and be your health conscious, diabetic-friendly, really excellent cook and exercise coach. It is easily a great trade, and I have lowfat ice cream connections babe. Not to mention a million other good ideas... It has taken me almost three years to lose all the weight, and I know what works and what doesnt. (Heck, some of the weight--about 25lbs of it-- I lost three or four times over the period of a year).
