g rath-
what kind of permits, certifications, etc are required to have and operate a shelter run incinerator?
We have lost our only area cremation service when we brought him up on criminal charges...what a nightmare for us and animal owners.
Right now we are using a special area of the landfill for disposal, but I would like to see us get back to cremation.
We are part of our local police department and we won't be able to really do this for a long time due to budget crisis but could you give me some ideas on where to start?
Thanks!!

The first place to start is zoning. I don't have in incinerator, but many other shelters encountered a change in zoning and had to shut their incinerators down. I would start there and make sure you are in alignment with city, county and state law.

Don't forget that, along with the physical building you're talking about, you will need to staff it. I don't know if you have any state mandates about how long and what hours you must have a shelter opened (we do in California). To staff a small shelter you'd probably need at lest three new employees, if not more. With a community of 9000 are they willing to support that kind of expenditure?

Forgive me if I am confused, (I will go with the Monday excuse as daylights savings time adjustment) I got the impression that there is an existing shelter with the need for an incinerator....?
