Post ACOs with Shelters: Hours Open to Public?

Hello all - I am trying to ascertain the "standard" for comparable communities for hours the shelter is open to the public.

If you have a shelter that is open to the public - please take a moment and answer the following:

1. Your City/County name?

2. Your population (estimate if you dont know, or give the # of the last census)?

3. Number of ACOs?

4. Number of support staff (paid)?

5. Number of volunteers that help operate the shelter?

6. What days of the week/hours are you open to the public?

7. Do you have any off-site adoptions during hours you are closed?

8. Would you mind if I contacted you to follow-up on any questions? If so, please send me an email at tpower@cityofbryant.com with your contact information and the best time to call or email (whichever you prefer.)

Thank you very much!

Wow, oldtimer; my city is about 7 times larger than yours, and we don't even do adoptions. Heck, we're not even open to the public.

1. *********, Indiana

2. Roughly 900,000 (okay, as if its not obvious now which city we're talking about...LOL)

3. 17 Officers / 3 Sergeants / 1 LT So basically not near enough to combat the size of the problem we have going here.

4. Roughly 20 paid support staff to include office workers and kennel staff

5. A bunch - it varies depending on the time of year and wheather or not you consider community service "volunteer"...LOL

6. Patrol is Operational 24 / 7 with two officer on third shift that take only fractous animal calls, stary roams or law enforcement assist calls. The rest of the shifts we field roughly 5 - 6 Officers a shift (depending on days off) dealing with pick ups (Wild & Domestic), LEO assists and Care & Treatment Investigations.

The shelter hours are as follows:

Shelter Hours:
Weekdays: 10am - 6pm
Wed: 10am - 7pm
Sat: 10am - 6pm
Closed: Sun & Holidays

7. Can't tell you about the Off Site adoption stuff. We have a fulltime adoption counselor. We also have a "special projects" type guy who does events like Pet Smart Adoption days and special events downtown in the summer months. I try not to hang around the "office" to much....LOL

8. Yup - go ahead and get ahold of me if ya need anything. You can reach me here or the email I PM'd you....
