I would apply for HLE but I could not find it. I saw a hiring notice for ACO, but for 2000-2500 a month...I am not moving and working in New Orleans

I applied. I thought about the wage too until I did a cost of living calulator. It cost 53% less to live there than where I do now.

Well, as far as pay goes $2000 a month works out to $11.54 an hour. The question is is it worth it to you to work for someone that thinks your value is about the same as a "crew supervisor" at McDonalds?

A. Do you really want to live forever?
B. It is a community that needs help
C. we don't do this job to get rich.

I took the job in DC and left my comfy possition to go make a difference in the world. I now have a great department that is only going to get better, great officers that should wear capes while working(yes, that awesome), and a city that is finaly show us some respect because we now have self respect. I dont evny who chooses to go there. I know they will have a lot of work to do, but give the right person 5 years and who knows what they may do.

I think it's a matter of perspective. $11.54/hr is an average going rate for an ACO in Florida. If I were offered the top pay of $2500/month I would jump on it. But then again, our cost of living isn't as high as your is in California, and we don't pay state income taxes.

I'm originally from southern California, and I wouldn't move back there regardless of how much the salary was. The politics, traffic and cost of living are too much for me. Again, it's a matter of perspective.

That's just it, I am not staying here just so I can say I make over 50 grand a year. I would not do the ACO position there. The ACO position it sounds like is good old dog catching, the cruelty/neglect/investigations are all done by the HLE team members. I also am not interested due to the 2000-2500 is not enough for me to move my entire life across country, my city is voilent as well, but I know my city. I know very little about thier culture, relation to enforcement, slang, body language, etc...for the HLE position I would love to contribute to making life better and have a opportunity to develop new programs and relations to the communtiy as that City is kinda starting over, but for ACO (might as well remove the O) it doesn't interest me, my personal preference. Cost of living does play, but I have a $500 truck payment which will not change if I move to New Orleans I am interested in leaving Cali though, I would move to Reno in a heartbeat for 10 grand less a year, no problem!!
