Default State Animal Cruelty Maps - So Far

Progress has been pretty good so far! The states we have finished are:

California:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=CA

Massachusetts:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=MA

Montana:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=MT (not much there, I know)

Wyoming:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=WY

And the states we are at least halfway done with are:
New York:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=NY

Virginia:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=VA

Which reminds me - Virginia and to a lesser degree, California, are great demonstrations of how these maps can really carry an impact. We are fortunate enough to have some great ACO's in Virginia that do a fantastic job with keeping us in the loop on their cases, which is why when VA is done, it will have the highest percentage of cases mapped out. As I have been going through these cases, I have wanted to HUG the VA ACO's involved, because they have made my job mapping these out SO easy. (Kathy Strause wins the prize for that, by a landslide!)

Although when we first started, we had CA humane law enforcement on our side, the information disclosed to us was limited, not usually including street or block numbers, which is why CA has the highest number of cases, but will probably end up with the lowest percentage of mapped cases.

Once we're done mapping everything out, I will provide a list of unmapped cases for each state, in the event that any ACO's here would like to check to see if theiir own cases are current - and provide a block address if their cases aren't mapped.

New York is done - Working on PA now. I'm pretty stoked, we've been averaging about 60%-70% mapping for the cases we have - a bit higher than I expected.

Here is the beginning of the PA map:

Couldya be a little more specific? LOL What state, city, time-frame, etc....

If we don't have a street address (or at least a block number) to work with, we usually cannot map a case. it will be added to the database, but it will fall into the percentage of cases that are not mapped on the interactive maps.

The reason for this is that for every single case we have in the database, in order for us to map it, we need to look up the latitiude and longitude of the address. If we have an address, this is a pretty simple process - but if no address is given, we have to do quite a bit more digging. For example, if the abuse happened at the abusers house, we have to try a background search to nail down a street address for them.

I see - Hull, MA is the location - wasn't sure if that was a person's name, etc. We have so many cases....

I found the one you mean:

Quote:
Willis was charged with cruelty to animals for striking an adult, male raccoon with a metal bat, causing the animal to be thrown off the roof and landing approximately 20 feet away. The animal was euthanized due to the injuries sustained.

On scene at 3:21 pm (01/14/03) Mr. Willis used a ladder to climb onto his roof, corner the raccoon that was sleeping on it, poked it with a metal bat then struck it in the head with such force that the animal was thrown off of the second floor roof landing on a sharp metal pole in the yard. After a thorough examination at the Wildlife Center, it was determined that the raccoon's skull had been fractured into numerous pieces and his arm had a severe laceration. The medical staff deemed that, even if treated, the raccoon would not survive the night, therefore, the raccoon was humanely euthanized by lethal injection and passed away at approximately 4:10 pm

Willis pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 6 months unsupervised probation with $150 restitution to the New England Wildlife Center.
No street or block address, so we couldn't map it. If you have that info, we'll be happy to get it mapped though.

We now have:

Connecticut (in progress):
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=CT

Maine (in progress)
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=ME

New Hampshire:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=NH

New Jersey:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=NJ

Vermont:
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel...s.php?state=VT

And if you really want to be freaked out....
The collective northeast (not including some of CT or ME, and not including all of RI, MD, DE, WV):
http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/cruel....php?region=NE
(This one has to plot about 1000 points on the map, so it loads slower than the rest - please be patient.)
