Default Virginia LEOS or VALORS for ACO's???

Hello, how are you?
This message is for Mark and every ACO in Virginia!!!
I work in a county in Virginia where Animal Control is kinda on the bottom of the priority list (I'm sure that fits most places
We don't work for our Sheriff, but for the County Administrator.
However, we are sworn in as ACO's and Special Police Officers to issue summonses in other areas of enforcement. Our Sheriff's deputies and jailors have LEOS retirement. Now, my question is....what procedure or method do I take do try and get Valors or LEO'S retirement (hazardous duty retirement) for this ACO department. I want to stay in this field of work because I enjoy it very much, but I want to know that I'll have a nest egg like everyone else. We have VRS, but no supplement.
my e-mail is mringstaff@yahoo.com for yourself or anyone else who has had this experience to e-mail me. Thanks again!!

Valors has to be changed at the state level because the agencies are listed in the code and the code would need to be ammended. Leos on the other hand can be done at the county level. If you can convince your county officials that your job is hazardous.
Here is the responce I got from VRS on the matter.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Your employer determines the hazardous duty position. If your position is deemed to be Hazardous Duty you may qualify for a hazardous duty supplement.

To qualify for the supplement, you must have at least 20 years of hazardous duty service at retirement or a membership date prior to July 1, 1974, with at least five years representing creditable service earned while a member of VALORS, SPORS, or as a Law Enforcement Officer, full -time firefighter, regional jail employee or sheriff with a political subdivision offering benefits equivalent to SPORS.

You are fighting a battle that we all are. Hope this helps some.
