I just had an owner looking for his Rodision Ridgeback, gold in color and about 35 lbs, that he had lost this morning. The only dog I picked up this morning was a Sheba Inu gold in color about 35 lbs. Well, of course it was his dog. The shelter he got the dog from told him it was a golden Rodision Ridgeback. Yes, it was his Sheba Inu.

A 35 lb Shiba Inu is a bit overweight whereas a 35lb Rhodesian Ridgeback is a bit underweight. I admit sometimes I get mixed up when it comes to certain breeds, but I don't think I'd mistake a Shiba for a Ridgeback.

They are much different to me also. I guess at shelters, they'll tell you anything you want to hear to adopt a dog. Let's see, curly Akita tail, looks like a little Akita, Huh! Must be a Ridgeback.

Dog Shows and Cat Shows are usually free to spectators (at least they are in my neck of the woods). Obedience and Agility Trials are also great. AKC.org and Animal Planets constant repeats of AKC conformation shows teach lots also, but live is better.
Unfortunately even some "Registered" animals do not look like the breed specs, so it really is not a science.
We usually call grey and orange torties or calico "Dilute". One day I'm going to walk into the cat room and all the tabby's will actually be labeled as such and all the tigers will be labeled as such. I didn't know that the word "ticked" was used in cats, I usually call cats like that grey/brown squirrel like. Learned something new today.

At least snakes are easy. If it rattles itís a rattlesnake, if it swims itís a water moccasin, and everything else is a copperhead.
