Keep an eye on the job board, and search for posts related to this topic -- see little red button at top of screen that says "Search" -- which will be helpful re: resumes, education, etc.

Good luck!

Y'all could move to Utah. When I leave in a month or so there will be a whole county, and a small town looking to replace me with at least 3 positions.

Duchesne,, North Eastern part

Cost of living is low but so is pay.

you can rent anywhere from $300 to $1000 a month
average house payment is around $600

Don't know what the pay will be I make $8.50 an hour for city, county would probably be higher.

Right now my hours are 24/7 7 days a week.

When i get tired I leave town and turn off the cell phone.

Its not going to be that way after I leave, The county has only had ordinances for 8 months now and we are planning on building a new shelter maybe even two within the county. Coming out of the dark ages if you will. I know the county will be hoping for experienced people to apply. We have started the county on a good track and now just need the right people to take over and make it work.

I impounded around 330 cats and dogs in the last 8 months. There is plenty to keep you busy, not to mention licencing, barking dog complaints, kennel inspections, euthanasia's and running the shelter.

Is it an armed position or not, what type of vehicles do you use for patrol and who do you work under, the Sheriff, local PD, County Commisoners, Health Dept or or what?

Right now I work for the city Mayor, contracted to the county.

The new positions will probably be
1 Duchesne City Officer under the mayor
2 Officers under the sheriffs office probably will have some police training, "special function officers"

I do not carry a side arm. I have a small taser and mace.
I do however carry a .22 pistol and a .22 rifle in my truck.

As for a vehicle I am driving a little GMC Canyon. I can fit 2 large crates and 1 small in the bed of my truck. My office is the club cab back seat area.

As I said it will just get better from here on out, hopefully the new employees will get bigger and better equipment.

The job has not been posted yet but here is where you can get the info when it does.
