Keep an eye on all the various websites that are where you are interested. I know that San Jose has a couple of openings but I am not sure if they ae looking for ACO's. Livermore was looking not to long ago and so was Peninsula but they are probably closed by now. Volunteer at the shelter where you really want to work and get to know the staff and ACO's and they will let you know when a position is going to open.

When I was in high school, I volunteer for the Palo Alto Animal Services from 1992 to 1997. I still know one their Animal Control Officers, She's still works for them and I still talk to her. Well, we are good friends.

I also volunteered at the shelter in San Leoanzo. The shelter was called the Fairmont Animal Shelter. I was the only volunteer that wasn't put there by the courts. Well, I WAS THE ONLY VOLUNTEER REALLY! The rest where put there by the courts for community services. There where quite a few Juvanilla's there and adults.I stayed plain clear from them all and if I had to work with someone I did. I just mainly stay cleared of them. I offen just grab a dog and took it for a very long walk and in that walking time I did basic training and the dogs and I offen walked down to the lake on the other side of the hill. There have been dogs I walked where like Labs and Goldens and they would love it when I took them there and threw a ball into the lake and they went diving in for it. Some these dogs where in the shelter for weeks and they always looked forwards to me coming. I was the only person that took the Labs and Goldens down to the lake and played fetch.

There was this one Golden,..It will take over 3 hours to get him unwound and man my arm was sore for the fist 2 weeks of throwing a ball into the lake for 3+ hrs. He was very young dog too.
