Default What is your ecological footprint?

http://www.earthday.net/Footprint/index.asp

The Ecological Footprint estimates how much land and water people need to support what they use and absorb what they discard. The Footprint Quiz figures out your footprint, and then lets you compare it to what other people use and to what is available on this planet.

Check it out! Its quite an eye-opener.

interesting........but I wonder how much of that is true.....i think they are jsut trying to get more donations by trying to show you how bad of a person you are. the questions were too general. I do agree though that we should do what we can to conserve.

I don't think they were trying to show anyone how bad of a person they are - we all have ways we can improve the way we live to conserve more and waste less. According to them, it would take 3 planets to sustain my lifestyle - and I don't feel as though I'm a bad person - just someone who needs to look a little harder to find ways to waste less.

I didn't get the sense that they were passing judgement at all. Its to be expected (I would think) that some people may feel badly after taking the quiz - but the idea there is to then change what you're doing.

Whether or not the exact number of planets needed is entirely accurate, its still a well-known fact that the vast majority of us live an unsustainable lifestyle. No need to feel badly about it - just look for ways to change it!

Heh - if it makes you feel any better, everyone I know needed multiple planets. (Well, I do have one hippie friend who has been living in a tree for the past year - he might score lower.... LOL)

Thats so odd, since I got a low rating 17 acres rather than the 24 average and only 3.5 planets LOL.

Considering that we have a family of five humans and a LOT of birds.. we use a lot of resources.

Strange.

Obviously a green propaganda piece. I think those lefties are hilarious. On one hand they want us to send money to feed people which will only serve to propagate them and increase the demand for food. But on the other hand they complain that earth is overcrowded and we all take more than we need. It all stems from a corrupt belief that people can cause some sort of difference in the way nature and the earth operate. Obviously formed from an elitist viewpoint that they carry far more impotance in the big picture than they do, but still a funny way to waste 5 minutes

animalman21 - while I agree that this particular test is far from accurate, I think you should do a little more research before making such blanket statements. Many of the "green" organizations also work towards educating impoverished communities in methods of birth control, etc.
