Default ANIMAL CRUELTY SEMINAR

Police officers, sheriffs and deputies, other city employees, animal control personnel, and veterinary staff often respond to or deal with animal cruelty reported by concerned citizens.

Failure to understand and apply the Texas laws in these situations can put the case in jeopardy and could result in deaths of animals that could have been prevented.

DSHS and Longview Animal Control are partnering to provide information regarding cruelty investigations. The seminar will include the following areas:

Introduction to laws that pertain to animal cruelty

Steps to beginning an investigation

Identifying ways to educate the animal owners of acceptable treatment of their animals

Relationship Building

Evidence Gathering

Identifying animals (including livestock) that are being cruelly treated

A mock trial featuring a Judge from the Longview area will give attendees a feel for what it will be like when you go to court.

The training has been approved for the following continuing education hours:

6 - CE hours for animal control officers as required by Chapter 829 of the Health and Safety Code

6 - TCLEOSE hours for certified peace officers (We will give you a certificate to take to your training officer.)

Who may want to attend - Animal control officers, supervisors of animal control, sheriffs and deputies, and police officers.

I dunno. My budget is frozen for the year, so no hotel money, and it is 160 miles from me to Longview. It would be a really long day to drive out there and back the same day. However, I do have some good contacts at TDSHS, so I bet I can score some info for you.

Now Scooter, it’s only 1200 miles from Phoenix to Longview. That’s only about a tank of gas for the lil’ Honda Urban Express. Of course @ 30 MPH it may take 3 days each way.

NICE! Do you have the Big Ruckus or the 50cc? I have ALWAYS wanted to take a Ruckus out for a ride. I love those little bikes.

Cheers, Scooterchic

Can't afford one yet, but this summer I'll have something with 2 wheels and thats good on gas. my truck gets like 9, 10 miles a gallon. I can't get rid of it, I love it so much and my dog would talk to me if I sold his truck.
