I was called for an interview and I can't make it. We're too short staffed at work right now to allow for me to take time off to go. I guess my search continues

Fear not....

We just had another ACO basically give their 2 week notice due to school issues....

So we should be hiring 4 ACO's total on this process. Stay Tuned and I'll try to update as I hear progress being made.

This is the thing people. Don't give up on this if you really want it. The city process takes 6 weeks AFTER they decide they want to hire you. I have seen many people get different jobs during that time. So stay ready cause if someone drops out - you might be in like flinn.....

When they hired the orginal 5 last year - one dropped out halfway thru the 6 week wait. So now we have a different person who started a week later then us. She is a top notch officer too - sio we got lucky the other one dropped out in my opinion....

Peace!

We don't have a scheduled on call....

Our department runs 24/7/365

On occasion as a mid shift officer you might have to work late tac due to someone calling off. To cover that they have a seniority list they use to "force" in case they don't get volunteers.....

Shifts:

Days 0700 - 1530
Mid 1 1200 - 2030
Mid 2 1300 - 2130
Late Tac 2030 - 0700

OK. that makes it nice! Coverage like the PD.

I was on call for the better part of 11 years ~every other week~. The only way I ever was able to manage a 2 week Vacation was to work the prior 2 solid weeks on call, beg the other on call officer to cover the additional week for me, and pick up 2 weeks straight on the other side. I believe I took a total of ~2~ vacations like that.

When your shift rotates every 4 months, do you have to do many doubles, or how is this accommodated?? I understand when you are short handed, you just do what you have to do, but I'm curious.

Well - if you end up having to switch shifts or days off then you might end up working a few extra days in a row before you get into your "new schedule".

Its like this. The Shift bid happens and is approved. They state it will start on Saturday. If your previous days off were Friday / Saturday and now you have to work Saturday due to the new schedule - then you will end up getting shorted your weekend this time until your next weekend comes up.

Is that clear enough?

I have only worked one double thus far in 10 months. That was cause I was off duty at 2030 and the late tac officer called off. So I got forced to cover the shift. Happens once in a while.... .life goes on.... spend the OT....lol
