Animal Control Officer

Animal Care & Control, Field Operation Services East

Location Address
You must be able to work days, evenings, nights and weekend shifts, AND at any Animal Care & Control location (2630 W. 8th Street in Mesa, 2323 S. 35th Avenue, or 5231 N. 35th Avenue in Phoenix)

To be considered for this position, you must indicate ANY for Shifts, and ANY for locations. Failure to indicate to do so will result in the removal of your application from consideration. You MUST be able to work any shift and any location.

Salary $13.19 - $15.20 Per Hour

Position Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and two years experience involving extensive public contact which involved tasks such as interacting with irate citizens under stressful conditions or advising the public of statutes, ordinances, resolving problems or conflicts, etc. An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute on a year for year basis. Preference may be given to candidates with previous animal control field experience and or experience enforcing ordinances and conducting investigations (including report writing). Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred. NOTE: Requires a valid Arizona Drivers License in good standing, no criminal record or DUI convictions and US citizenship. Must be able to operate a one-ton truck and lift animals weighing up to 70 pounds.

Essential Job Tasks
Patrol assigned area; enforce animal control ordinances; issue citations and license violation warnings; testify in court; participate in public education; impound dogs and cats, including those that have bitten humans, often under hazardous conditions; impound wild animals (bats, skunks, etc.); investigate animal bites and inform the public of procedures relating to quarantine; euthanize animals as necessary; complete forms and write investigative reports; secure crime scenes involving cruelty to animals, interview witnesses and secure evidence; input and retrieve information from a computer; assist police departments with animals as necessary; Maintain vehicle and equipment.

How do I apply for this job? Would my state Retirement transfer to the county?
