Maybe after he is out of ammunition, but I have seen them spray two and three times in a matter of just a couple of minutes.

Every skunk I have seen spray has placed its tail against its back to do it. Usually they will stand on their front feet, with their tail on their back and their back feet in the air pointing their “weapon” over their head in the same direction they are looking.

I have been told that if you pick one up by the tail, then it can’t spray. However, if I live to be 100, I will never test that theory.

If it isn't dead, I wouldn't want to vouch for that either. (And if it IS dead, heckuva disrespectful way to treat the animal).

But I have picked sick skunks up with the scruff/tail tuck method above, and I can vouch for the fact that they do not spray if their tail is tucked under their tummies. A towel helps absorb whatever scent may be on them already.
