Default Anyone want the receipe for ANZAC Biscuits

If you do let me know. These biscuits have a long history in this country and were born with the diggers on the shores of Gallipoli. I love em.

I'd love to have your recipe. Only, does it have ingredients I can find in the US? I hate all these health cookbooks; half the ingredients I can't even pronounce, let alone find them in any store here.

Default ANZAC Biscuits (R)

Here it is. Just a word of advice when you cook them lock them up or they will dissappear fast. I love eating them warm from the oven. Your tablespoon is bit smaller than ours so be a bit more generous with the measurements. They are a cinch to make. I learnt as a kid.

The story behind them is that they reckon that the women at home during the first world war made these to send to the boys on the front because they last so long and they could stand up to being mailed over. Also they reckon the diggers made them in the trenches because thay are so easy to make.

Enjoy

Ingredients

1 cup plain flour
1 cup rolled oats (regular oatmeal) uncooked
1 cup desiccated coconut
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tbsp golden syrup (or honey)
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tbsp boiling water

Method

Combine the flour (sifted), oats, coconut and sugar in a bowl.
Melt the butter and Golden Syrup (or honey) in a saucepan over a low heat..

Mix the bicarbonate of soda with the water and add to the butter and Golden Syrup.

Pour the liquids into the dry ingredients and mix well.

Spoon dollops of mixture, about the size of a walnut shell, onto a greased tin leaving as much space again between dollops to allow for spreading.

Bake in a moderate oven, 180C / 350F, for 15-20 minutes.

Cool on a wire rack and seal in airtight containers

Yes I would love the recipe. My daughter just did a country profile of your country in GIrl Scouts and this was one of the foods she talked about
