Pepper Spray/ OC

Just wondered if most ACOs carry it and if they had to get some sort of certification to carry it, What the policy says about using it. Thanks

About every agency around here issues it. They are trained to the same state standards and agency policy and procedure as the local PD in their area.

A handful of agencies here in Indiana also issue Tasers and batons as well.

Indianapolis Metro: Batons, OC
Carmel CSO: Taser, Baton, OC, Shotgun and rifle in truck
Noblesville CSO: Taser, Baton, OC
Lawrance: Taser, Baton, OC
Southport: Taser, Baton, OC
Fort Wayne: Baton and OC

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (Me): Full Duty belt and arrest powers.

At my first city we had 2 410 shotguns and a 22 rifle that belonged to ACO that we never had to qualify with but were available to us. We also bought some over the counter dog repellant, again, no qualification or certification .

At my second city I had to qualify at the PD range before I had access to a shotgun from the PD armory, and I had to go through PD training/certification for OC and they issued it.

At my 3rd city they recognized my OC certification and issued me a can, but for my officers we bought citronella spray. We didn't have access to firearms.

Per Texas law and ACO has to be certified to use a "bite stick" ::wwf::
