Summary of Duties: Position is responsible for capturing, trapping, and euthanizing dangerous, diseased, and/or stray animals; patrolling and responding to trouble calls; capturing and impounding animals found to be in violation of the county animal control ordinance; locating animal owners and resolving complaints; issuing citations and written warnings for violations of the local animal control ordinance and filing violations and penalties, testifying in court regarding violations on a weekly basis; picking up dead animals, setting traps to capture wildlife, assisting law enforcement and federal regulatory agencies, using tranquilizer gun, assisting the general public with adoption. This position is part-time; may work weekends, holidays and after hours as needed.
Starting Salary: $9.22 per hour
Qualifications: Knowledge of local, state, and federal animal control laws and regulations; knowledge of other department, local, state, and federal ordinances, codes, rules, and regulations governing department activity; knowledge of the layout and geography of the county, including the location of streets, subdivisions, and other residential and commercial property; knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; skill in the capture, trapping, and euthanization of dangerous or diseased animals; skill in the operation of equipment used in the capture of animals including tranquilizer guns, shotguns, catchpoles, live traps, etc.; skill in the preparation, handling, and use of various chemicals used in the immobilization and euthanization of animals; skill in performing mathematical calculations; skill in interpersonal relations; and skill in oral and written communication.
